City of Newport News Sheriff’s Office— Greater Overall Efficiency

As inmate populations continue to rise and budgets dwindle, Newport News Sheriff’s Office felt it wasn’t getting from their former provider the programs needed to deliver against growing demands for performance.

We showed Newport News how to reverse their $2,000 per week drain on inmate accounts by replacing their online commissary ordering system with an efficient, high-commission, on-site commissary program. When Winnebago County was looking for a solution that could help them meet greater demands for services with fewer resources, all they wanted were the hard facts. Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office recognized that our solutions showed tremendous promise to help their facility meet the increasing demands for performance. They were right.

How we increased revenue sixty-five percent

In only ten months, the Swanson team delivered on our promise with an increase in annualized pre-phone revenue from $592,000 to $874,000—a 47% jump. Add in phone sales and Winnebago’s revenue has increased 65% since we started working with them, and their commissions have more than doubled!

Onslow County Sheriff’s Office—Technology, Techology...

How we’re optimizing Onslow’s revenue and efficiency

From a highly competitive commission rate to technology that grows revenue and minimizes staff time, Swanson’s package for Onslow County includes these key programs and benefits: Cobra Banker® software automates every inmate fiduciary process, so precious staff time can be reallocated to where it’s needed most. Since Cobra Banker® is GAAP-compliant, Onslow County will be fully prepared for its next audit.

Cobra Cashier™ lobby kiosks increase trust fund balances and spending power via self-serve cash and credit card deposits to inmate accounts by their family and friends. That translates to more commissionable revenue. Swanson handles the cash and maintenance, which frees up Onslow’s staff for other priorities. We also installed no-fee booking kiosks for Onslow, which fully automate their cash intake handling and accounting process.

Cobra SmartCards™ substitute cash or check payouts to Onslow County released inmates with a secure debit card that can be used at ATMs and retail stores. SmartCards reduce fraud and eliminate the cost and bother of paper checks. Once Onslow County issues a SmartCard, their financial liability to the inmate ends.

Hoke County Sheriff’s Office—New Tricks for a Long-Time Client

Swanson client Sheriff Hubert Peterkin was all ears when we asked him to take alook at some numbers on Swanson technology performance that we had recently compiled from a variety of client installations.

Like many correctional facilities, Sheriff Peterkin faces a substantial budget belt-tightening at the same time Hoke County leaders want greater performance and efficiency from all county departments.
